Pastor Ted continued in the book of Revelation today, in chapter 9, which unfolds as a sobering vision of divine judgment meant to awaken a godless world. At the sounding of the fifth trumpet, a shaft to the Abyss is opened, and from it pours darkness and torment. Strange locust-like forces are released, not to destroy life outright, but to inflict anguish on those who have rejected God. Their suffering is severe, yet limited, showing that even judgment operates under divine restraint.
The sixth trumpet follows with greater intensity. A command issues from the golden altar before God, and long-restrained powers are released to bring widespread death. The scale of devastation is immense, underscoring the seriousness of human rebellion and the cost of persistent evil. Yet, the most tragic note of the chapter is not the destruction itself, but the response of those who survive. In the face of unmistakable warnings, they refuse to repent, clinging instead to idolatry, violence, and moral corruption.
The teaching of Revelation 9 is clear and unsettling: judgment is real, purposeful, and restrained by God's mercy, but it does not guarantee repentance. The chapter confronts readers with the urgency of turning back to God before hearts become permanently hardened.
