Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:5, 11–13

“Therefore let the one who thinks he stands watch out that he will not fall.”

Israel had something many people say they wish they had: visible evidence of God's presence. God led them with a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. He provided food. He delivered them from Egypt. He protected them.

Yet they still rebelled.

Pastor Ted made a powerful observation during our Sunday message: God was right there, yet they rebelled.

The problem wasn't that God had abandoned them. The problem was that they did not trust Him. Their experience of God's presence did not automatically produce faithful obedience.

That is an important warning for us. We can attend church, hear God's Word, sing worship songs, serve in ministry, and surround ourselves with Christian people—and still allow our hearts to drift from God.

Going to church is important. But Christianity is not merely something we do in a building. We are called to live Christ every day.

Paul tells us that Israel's failures were recorded as examples for us. Their story is meant to keep us from repeating their mistakes.

God has already given us the warning.

 Being around the things of God is not the same as walking with God. Faith requires trust and obedience.

Prayer:
 Lord, keep me from becoming comfortable with outward religion while my heart drifts away from You. Help me learn from the failures recorded in Scripture rather than repeat them myself. Give me a heart that trusts Your Word and follows You wherever You lead. Amen.
